About Handwriting to Text Converter

Uses the same underlying OCR engine as our other text-extraction tools — worth knowing directly, since Tesseract is fundamentally built and trained for printed text, not handwriting specifically.

Accuracy on neat, printed block letters (a form filled out by hand in capitals) is often reasonable. Accuracy on genuine cursive handwriting is frequently poor, since the engine has no specialized handwriting model to draw on.

Auto Enhance is applied automatically here (not optional), since handwriting samples are typically lower-contrast than printed text — this tends to help meaningfully more here than on printed-text tools.

How do I convert handwriting to text?

Upload a JPG, PNG or WebP photo of your writing, run the tool, then read and correct the text in the box. It uses the Tesseract OCR engine, which is trained mainly on printed text, so neat block letters work far better than cursive.

How do I convert handwritten notes to text?

Photograph the page flat, in even light, with dark ink on plain paper, and write in separated capital or print letters. After recognition you get the text plus an estimated confidence score; review it carefully because handwriting often scores lower.

Can it read cursive handwriting?

Usually not well. The OCR model is built for printed text, so joined-up or stylized handwriting often gives garbled output, or no text at all, and the tool will tell you when nothing was detected. A printed block-letter sample works much better.

Is my handwriting photo uploaded anywhere?

No. Recognition runs in your browser, so the photo stays on your device. The first use downloads the OCR engine and English language data, then your browser caches it. Only English is supported here.
