About Add Watermark to Photo Online
Adding a watermark β a visible logo, name, or text overlay β is mainly about protecting images you’re sharing publicly from being used without credit or permission, especially for photographers, designers, and anyone sharing original work where attribution matters.
An effective watermark balances two competing goals: visible enough to deter uncredited reuse, subtle enough not to ruin the image itself. A watermark that’s too large or too opaque makes the image unpleasant to look at even for legitimate viewers; one that’s too small or faint is easy to crop out entirely, defeating its purpose.
Placement matters as much as opacity β a watermark placed centrally is harder to crop out than one in a corner, though it’s also more visually intrusive. Many photographers use a semi-transparent watermark across a larger portion of the image specifically because it’s genuinely difficult to remove without visibly damaging the photo underneath it.
