Calculating a tip and splitting a bill between multiple people involves two separate calculations most people do mentally under time pressure — genuinely easy to get wrong, especially with an unusual tip percentage or an odd number of people splitting.

This tool calculates the tip amount, the total including tip, and the per-person split if dividing among a group, all at once rather than requiring separate manual calculations for each.

Useful for quickly checking a fair split at a restaurant, especially when different people ordered different amounts and a simple even split doesn’t feel right.

How do I calculate a tip at a restaurant?

Enter the bill amount, choose a tip percentage (10, 15, 18, 20, 25 or a custom value) and the tip and total appear instantly. It starts at 15%. Results are shown with a dollar sign and are not rounded up to whole amounts.

How do I calculate a tip in my head?

Find 10% by moving the decimal point one place left, then adjust. For 20%, double it. For 15%, add half of the 10% figure to itself. On a 64 dollar bill, 10% is 6.40, 20% is 12.80 and 15% is 9.60.

How do I split a tip between people?

Enter the number of people in the Split Between box. Once it is above 1, the calculator shows the tip per person and total per person as well as the overall tip and total. It splits evenly, so uneven shares need separate calculations.

How do I calculate tip percentage?
